American in Amsterdam - Paranoia and Prohibition Inhibition

For some reason this trip "over the pond" has taken a lot longer to adjust for the jet-lag than usual. We headed out and had dinner and checked out a few shops in the meantime..
The first shop: The Bushdoctor. I first saw a few shops as we came from the airport including The GreenHouse and Barneys, but we ate towards an area called Rembrantplein. This little shop was tucked into a side area off the square itself.
As we approached the shop, I honestly kept looking around making sure everything is 'cool'.. as if for some reason I needed to watch out for someone. The paranoia of prohibition definitely makes the first part of the experience not that much fun. I however was pretty tired, and as such I wanted to head off to home and bed. So we made our way up to this shop.
You enter the house, a small dutch narrow home that has been converted to smoke rooms. I guess taxes used to be collected on the width of homes, so they are pretty narrow. This one seemed even smaller than usual, but who knows. The old entrance door leads you right into the bar. It was about 11pm or so and there were 5 or 6 people sitting around smoking, talking about the luger on tv. On the bar were 2 menus of the shops "wares". This place sold items in 2 gram increments of all sorts of stuff, but unfortunatly they were out of Jack Herer which I really wanted to try. I opted for the blueberry instead.
This decor of this place was pretty cool. Lots of graffiti everywhere and 3 stories to check out. Sort of like clmbing up a dollhouse to get stoned. We checked it out but bolted without toking. The staff wasn't that great, but who cares. Your not there to make friends anyways. They were maybe english? or had an english accent.
The blueberry was pretty good, though nothing super amazing. That comes next post. Overall we would say the bushdoctor was ok, but probably not worth seeking out. The prices and 2 gram sale amounts makes this place not as good of a deal as the others to come.
So much for the first evening! Stay tuned for more wandering around Amsterdam.
